Environmental Responsibility

Now entering its second century of operations, The Kroot Corporation continues to make major commitments to the environment. We are an environmentally safe facility with an ongoing program to meet or exceed all federal guidelines. Our main concern is the responsible handling of all types of scrap.

Special Handling of Scrap

In 1997 we added a 12,000 square foot building to house all turnings and other oily materials. Here we separate any oil and water from the scrap material. The oil and water are then processed by OSHA approved methods. Few scrap yards in the country control waste in this manner.

Cleanliness

The Kroot Corporation maintains a very clean facility. All materials stored outside are sorted on concrete pads which can easily be swept clean. Some materials are unloaded and stored inside large buildings to protect the ground and surrounding area. The Kroot Corporation controls its property lines by regularly taking readings of our storm water runoff. The readings are federally regulated to make sure that no pollutants are detected in the water, on or off our property.

The Kroot Corporation collects all water runoff before leaving the property. Any oil, as well as sediment, is separated and collected in underground tanks for EPA approved disposal.

Radiation Control

We have been using Bicron detectors at our scales to eliminate any trace of radioactive material on our property for the past 15 years. All materials must pass through these detectors when entering or leaving the facility.

The Customer

We are also involved in working with industrial plants to have clean pickup areas where scrap is collected. We want the metals to be transported to our facility in a safe manner. Scrap is a renewable resource that demands safe handling, storage and shipping in its life cycle and we at The Kroot Corporation will continue to fulfill our obligation to environmental responsibility in the 21st century and beyond.
